Oct 22, 1952 – Oct 9, 2021 (Age 68)
Mr. William Glen Arthur, beloved “Coach Arthur” to many, 68, widower of Lisa Grubbs Arthur, formerly of Mullins, passed away after a sudden illness at his residence in Marion on the afternoon of Saturday, October 9, 2021.
William Glen Arthur had a lot of names. “Dear” to his wife, “Glen” to his friends, “Dad” to his children, “Grandpa” or “Pa” to his grandchildren, and “Coach Arthur” or just “Coach” to the thousands of students and athletes he taught throughout his long career. He was a patient, kind, good-natured man who always made time for other people. He was never concerned with what he needed or what his plans were. He would much rather ask you about how you were doing and whether you needed any help. He was truly selfless as a family man, an educator, and a coach. He will be remembered fondly, and dearly missed.
Glen was born on October 22, 1952 in Beaufort, South Carolina, a some to the late Charles Lethco Arthur, Sr. and the late Daphne Garner Arthur. Glen was a graduate of Mullins High School and graduated from Coastal Carolina University. He played about every sport offered football, basketball, baseball, track. After graduating college, Glenn returned to teach high school, he also coached almost every sport at some time during his career teaching in both North and South Carolina, earning the enduring “Coach Arthur” mantle. He finished his teaching career teaching Government and Economics at Mullins High School as well as coaching the Softball team. He was loved in the community of Mullins and spent much of his time at the Mullins Rec Center. He coached generations of young athletes there throughout his life. He continued to volunteer long after he retired from teaching.
Surviving Glen are his Children: his two daughters: Elizabeth Richardson and Mary Catherine Arthur; his son, Matthew (Brandi) Arthur; and his Grandchildren: Corri Arthur, Layla Arthur, Charlie McLeod, and Alana McLeod.
Glenn was predeceased by his loving wife, Lisa Grubbs Arthur.
Arrangements will be announced at a later date.
A guestbook is available on our website at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.com.

Coach Arthur was like a second father to me. He taught me so much about baseball and softball and about life in general. He loved my daughter Kaitlin like she was his own granddaughter and together he and I built a great softball pitcher. He taught me the difference between coaching young men and young women; the lessons he learned when he went from coaching baseball to softball. He was a great man and no one will be able to fill his shoes. I’ll miss you Coach.

While we know that where he is this evening, Coach wouldn’t come back to us even if he could, but it surely is difficult for those he left behind. He was such a kind, caring, and gentle soul, and a loving and devoted family man. We’re so thankful that he became part of our family as well as being a cherished friend; it has been a blessing and a treasure to know him. He will be deeply missed. Our hearts and prayers go out in abundance for his children and grandchildren; we’re so sorry for your...
