William Dean Baker
November 3, 1937 – November 3, 2025
William “Bill” Dean Baker, son of the late Lillie Viola (Bales) Baker and Otto Von Baker, was born in Ellington, MO on November 3, 1937. He departed this life peacefully at The Grande in Creve Coeur, MO on November 3, 2025, at the age of 88.
On June 27, 1959, Bill was united in marriage to Mary “Sue” Laverne Larkin in Ellington, MO by the “Angel of Bethlehem”. They were married for over 66 years, to this union three children were born: Larry, Todd and Robyn.
Bill had a long career as a Journeyman Carpenter, General Foreman for the foundations division working for McBride and Son/Builder’s Bloc Construction until he retired due to a back injury. He loved the outdoors and all kinds of hunting. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and gigging on the Current River. He loved 4 wheeling all over Reynolds County in his old Jeep. He enjoyed planting and taking care of his garden. He was skilled in so many ways; carpenter, beekeeper, welding, mechanic, body work, electrical, plumbing, you name it he could build it or fix it. One of a kind, hardworking, very strong, outgoing and always a great sense of humor. He was willing to help anyone and enjoyed his family and friends. Bill was a loving husband, caring father, and a great “Pops” and friend to many who will greatly miss him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Lillie; one son Todd Baker; six brothers, Walker, Leslie, Bob, Bunyan, Donald and Lowell; and three sisters, Betty Massie, Mary Albright and Polly Riggs.
Bill is survived by family including his wife, Sue Baker of Bridgeton, MO; one son Larry Baker and wife Joanne of Maryland Heights, MO, one Daughter Robyn Smith and husband Kenny of O’Fallon, MO; five grandchildren, Andrea Sexe and her husband Eric, of Glen Carbon, IL Daniel Baker of Maryland Heights, MO, Logan Smith and wife Kathleen of Chesterfield, MO, Lauren Smith of St. Charles, MO and Corina Baker of Elsberry, MO. And two great-grandchildren, John and Michelle Sexe of Glen Carbon, IL, as well as many other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, November 6th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Colliers Funeral Home located at 3400 N Lindbergh Blvd, St. Ann, MO 63074
An additional visitation is scheduled for Saturday, November 8th from 10-11 am at McSpadden Funeral Home located at 610 Main Street, Ellington, MO 63638
