Barber set the pace for the rest of us in college. He listened, wrote, asked, read, and reflected with determination, teaching us by his example how to be a real student. Barber always pursued the deeper meaning, the mystery. But my strongest, sweetest memory of Barber, now 30 years past, was his admiring, unflinching love for his dear girl Miss Mary Fletcher Stubbins.
