Not sure what to say?

I was sorry to hear that one of our favorite teachers for the Ottawa HS Class of 1962 had passed away. Those of us in Jr. high band enjoyed many pleasant hours making music and marching under Mr. Barker's direction. Although I no longer actively play the flute, I still own it, and always remember the good times it represents. Since I have gone into a music career, though with piano accompanying in colleges, I have utmost admiration for the music teachers who helped me so much along the...

Mr. Barker started me on trumpet in the 4th grade at Eugene Field School in Ottawa, Kansas. He changed me to tuba in the 8th grade. From there I ended up playing in the Marine Band (The President's Own) and was a college music professor for 25 years. I shall always have a fond place in my heart for him. I also recall his English Ford that he drove in Ottawa as well. Steve Brandon

Mrs Barker and Family, We were so saddened to hear about Mr. Barker's passing. He was my "very first" band instructor at Ottawa Junior High School in Ottawa, Kansas. And I will always remember the "Swing Kings" Dance Band that he directed. I received word of his passing from Emma Channon who lives in Oregon, through her sister, Anna Channon who played Sax, and I played Clarinet. Those were wonderful times. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Mary Lee Peterson

Audry and family,
The people who bought your house on Hancock, Phuc and Thao Ngugen, brought the Oregonian over to me and asked if this was the same Barker they bought their house from.
Larry and I are saddened to hear of Bill's death. What an excellant life he lived. We were so sad when you moved away.
Our hope for you is that the many memories that you shared with Bill over the years will flood your soul and bring a smile and comfort to your heart.
May God's very richest...

"Mr Barker" was my music teacher at Robert Gray in the 1960's. I will remember him forever because he is the man who first put a violin in my hands when I was 9 years old, and I am still playing to this day.

Great regards to the family from your neighbor on Hancock St., and student Diane Bottger-McKee. I have many fond memories. My mother, Mary and I send our regrets. Would love to hear from the family. 503-786-8238

Our sympathies and prayers are with you, Audrey, and your family at this time. We have fond memories of Bill during the many years that we were at St. Matthew's.

My condolences to Audrey Barker. What a joy to have known them through the King City Lawn Bowling Club a few years back.

With condolences, from a 19 year former member of the OMTAAMB
