William Henry Becker

Just found this notice. Sorry about his passing. I was in the first class at UMBC, and took three courses with Dr. Becker. He was an excellent teacher, and I felt valued both as a student and a person in his classes. His memorial occurred on my 75th birthday as it turns out. God bless his spirit, and his family. I took Bill Becker's Business History class as a graduate student at George Washington University. He was very helpful to me during my time at GW. He wrote letters of recommendation for me when I went on the college job market, and he served on my dissertation committee. I will always remember him as a great scholar and good man. He was highly regarded by both faculty and students. My condolences to the Becker family.

Bill Becker mentored me and many other economic historians. He always had a kind word for everyone. His legacy is the many people he taught to love history and to use rigorous scholarship to explain history.

Will always remember Bill´s quick smile and gentle way. We spent every Sunday and summer vacations together which were always a lot of fun. I will always remember Bill as the great person he was. My deepest sympathies to Family and friends.
