William (Bill, Buster) Elliot Gheen

Bill Gheen was such a wonderful human being. One thing that I know and that I am convinced about Bill is that he had an amazing life. He was a mentor and a father figure to me. He had a big heart, a happy and joyful demeanor and a deep and intelligent mind. I remember vividly how I met Bill. It was at a talk on microfinance organized by the World Bank in Washington DC. Opa was one of the most admirable, accomplished individuals I have ever personally met. He never failed to encourage my artistic inclinations, even going so far as to volunteer funding for my art school admission. When I think of him, the most applicable emotion that comes to mind would be pride. I deeply regret not spending more time with him, and wherever he is now, I wish him nothing but the best.

Nothing but fond memories of somewhat shy, Bill Gheen, while touring with his family on the Cristiani Bros. Circus. Handsome young Bill left an impression of being hungry for life, & driven to succeed on his terms -while clinging to a pocketful of dreams. I remember my Opa as a charming, smart, and funny person. We shared many passions, including but not limited to model trains, wood building blocks, and model tanks. One of the pieces of advice he gave me was to listen to the pieces of advice that my father and other people in my family gave me. I tried to spend time with him and learn about his life as much as I could. Although I feel like I could have done more, I'm thankful that his passing was peaceful and that he lived a long and happy life.
