William “Bill” Henry DePue, son of Henry John and Lois (Hildebrand) DePue, was born April 1, 1943 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  He received his education in Cylinder, Iowa graduating from Cylinder High School.

On June 4, 1966 Bill was united in marriage to Judith Rae Fast in Alta, Iowa.  They were blessed with four children.  Bill served in the Iowa National Guard for six years.

Bill was a meat cutter for Safeway in Spencer for 10 years and later he and Judy owned and operated The Fishbowl in their home, specializing in tropical fish and supplies.  Bill farmed near Cylinder where he did custom baling and with his semi, hauled grain for area farmers.  Bill raised and showed sheep for many years and was a member of the Wool Producers and Sheep Producers Groups, where he served as an officer.  Bill loved his peacocks also.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fenton.  His faith was extremely important to him and in 1970 he received his certification to be a Certified Lay Speaker and also attended school for Lay Ministry.  He was very active in the Walk to Emmaus and encouraged countless individuals to attend.  Bill loved singing and listening to gospel music.  He and Jim Stevens traveled to Rockwell City to do prison ministry.

Bill really enjoyed his motorcycle and for a number of years his mustang.  He had a great sense of humor and was always teasing someone.  He didn’t know a stranger and could visit with anyone he came in contact with.  Bill’s family was very important to him and he loved playing with his grandchildren, whether that meant crawling under the tables with them or playing tag on the hay bales.  He enjoyed giving them rides on his 4-wheeler and then when they were old enough teaching them to drive it.

Bill passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 80.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lois DePue; an infant sister, Kathy; and a brother, John DePue.

He is survived by his wife, Judy of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his children, Brian DePue of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Julie (Mark) McGrauth of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Charity (Javan) Maehl of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Travis (Enrique) DePue of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Miranda (Allen) Ingvall, Mason McGrauth, Morgan (Sam) Skattebo, Grace Maehl, Kennedy Maehl, Dawson Maehl, Mercedes DePue, Briana DePue and Koral DePue; five great grandchildren, Joscelyn Ingvall, Fiona Ingvall, Syler Truelson, Huxley Miller, and Elliott Skattebo; a brother, Robert (Shirley) DePue of Emmetsburg, Iowa; a sister, Betty Thompson of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Not sure what to say?

My sympathy to the family of Bill.

With our deepest sympathies, Judy & family, Pud & Linda Jones

Rest In Peace Bill-I was one of the "countless" you asked to attend the Walk to Emmaus, you were a shining example of how to be a humble follower of Jesus Christ. May His peace be with Judy and the family at this time. God Bless

I am truly very sorry for the loss of the good man. My condolences and love to the entire family.

Bill, always enjoyed our times together at Emmaus weekends. Loved hearing your personal stories and your wit.
Blessings to Judy and the family.

I'll be saying a lot tomorrow about what a great person Bill was. Prayers, peace, blessings and joy to you all!

Single Memorial Tree

Judy, my thought and prayers are with you. May God's grace and peace bless you and your family during this trying time, and always.

I will always remember Bill for his huge smile, twinkling eyes, and the feeling that every time I spoke with him he was including me on some wonderful secret adventure. He was an amazing man with a servant's heart. He will be deeply mourned and missed. Sending love and prayers to all.
