I worked for Bill Ferguson from the late 1970s until 1986, and again from 1989 until his retirement in 1991. As his "numbers man," as he liked to say, the job often meant late nights and early mornings-especially during hurricanes, ice storms, and tornadoes. Except for my father, no one had a greater influence on my life. Bill consistently demonstrated the highest levels of integrity, business knowledge, leadership, decisiveness, and understanding. Oh, so many wonderful memories. I was blessed to work for Mr. Ferguson for several years, and I will always be deeply grateful for that time. This side of heaven will feel different without him, but his kindness, generosity, and legacy will forever live on in the lives of those he touched. I truly enjoyed my early morning meetings with Bill Ferguson when he was BellSouth Network President here in Birmingham. I have never known anyone who could work late and come in completed prepared to cover a wide range of business matters early the next day. He knew how to steady the ship in turbulent times. If we could rewind the clock a couple of decades, and convince him to accept, I would surely vote for him as President of these United States!
