Snodgrass Funeral Home Obituary

WV Broadcasting Hall of Fame Disc Jockey and Local Legend Bill Shahan has passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2016 after a long battle with esophageal cancer. Bill Shahan thrived along the airwaves since the 1980's – an ever-present and vivacious personality who over the years made our mornings brighter across the dial at V100, Electric 102.7, 98.7 The Beat, and 96.1 The Wolf. He worked in various roles as Disc Jockey, Presenter, Sales and Program Director. An energetic and tireless presence, Bill was always willing to gig for a wedding and was still able to donate his time and efforts to charities like The March of Dimes and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Bill was an alumni of South Charleston High School (Class of 1979) and a graduate of West Virginia State University Class of 1984. He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Shahan; and his brothers Stephen and Michael. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Londa; his amazing daughters, Kylie and Allyson; grandson, Wyatt Williams; mother, Pat and step father T.C. Lewis; twin, Bob (Kellie) Shahan; sister-in-laws, Sherry Shahan and Teresa Turano; brother- in- law, Thomas Boggess; mother-in-law, Carolyn Boggess, Aunt Karen and Uncle Mike Cash; nieces, Mindy Tringone, Samantha Shahan, and Jade Shahan; step sisters, Margaret and Patti; step-brothers, David, Brian and Mike; his extended family, and also hundreds of friends and thousands of fans across the greater Charleston area. Bill will be forever loved and remembered and he will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service to Honor the Life of Bill Shahan will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 29, 2016, at Snodgrass Funeral Home with Chaplain Pete Thompson officiating. Family and friends may visit two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bill's Go Fund Me account. "Bill Shahan, Fighting the Fight." Not sure what to say?

I am heartbroken over the loss of Bill. It took me a while to even write this because of how crushed I was when I first heard the news. But I'm thinking about old friends tonight, and this is small tribute is way overdue. I first met him when I was fresh out of college and knew very little about radio. It was my first real job, and I worked night shift at V100. Bill was, by far and away, THE best mentor, and he mentored me at Super102 too where we both ended up some years later. He was so...

So blessed to have had this man in my life all of these years. He believed in me right from my start in radio in the late 80's and always looked out for me. He is truly the finest kind. I love the Shahan family and will continue to lift you up to God in prayer. May God provide you peace that surpasses all human understanding. I know that Billy's spirit is still with all who loved him. "Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not...

May God bless Bill and his family in their time of grief and Rest In Peace. We had great times and I will cherish the memories we had. I will especially be grateful for being by my side when my father past away in 1980. Along with some of our classmates in 1979, he stayed around me and I want his family to know, even though I can not be there, he is in my heart and by my side today.

It broke my heart when I got the news that Billy had lost his battle with cancer. A special person. Bill was born to be on the radio. I've been blessed to work with a lot of great talent over the years, but Bill is part of the handful that standout. He came to work every day pumped up to crack that mic and entertain the valley. His enthusiasm was contagious. He lit up the room and he lit up the airways. More than that, Billy was one of the good guys. Always ready to lend a helping...

Dear Londa and family, we are deeply sorry for your loss. May all these great memories of Billy help ease some of the heartbreak you are now feeling.

I'm so sad to hear of the loss of Billy. He was a true friend to all that knew him. May he rest in peace after such a hard fought battle. He now resides with the Angels in Heaven and our Heavenly father. May there be comfort from above and love for his wife Londa and children and family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My wishes and prayers are with the family at this time of extreme loss.
Bill opened his heart to all, he loved life and laughter but nothing mattered more to him than his family.
Thank you for sharing him with us while he was here.
