Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Roanoke Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of William Maurice Ross,
affectionately known as “Bovy,” on February 4, 2025 in the comfort of his home in
Decatur, Georgia.

Born on May 15, 1966, in Roanoke, Virginia—aka “The Noke”—
Bovy’s impact stretched far beyond his hometown, as he was truly world-wide and
internationally known.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Sergeant Ross served his country with
honor until his medical retirement. His discipline and dedication in service carried over
into every aspect of his life.

Bovy had a deep passion for football, especially his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers,
cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. He was an avid reader, incredibly intelligent,
and never hesitated to remind those around him that he graduated a year early, was a
genius and was easily the smartest person in any room—no matter where he was. His
sharp wit and deep love for gaining and spreading wisdom made every conversation
with him unforgettable.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether watching the cooking channel, enjoying
cartoons and Disney movies with his grandson PJ, or simply spending time with his
family. He was a true foodie that was happiest when eating his favorite meals, typically
cooked by his talented personal chef (aka his son, Kobe’).
Bovy was a true warrior that faced everything he experienced with the strongest faith.
He never once complained about his afflictions and always encouraged others to stay
positive during difficult times. He could turn the darkest situation into a light hearted
moment simply by cracking a joke and showing off his million dollar smile. His love
and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bovy is survived by his loving children, Naja and Kobe’ Ross, and his cherished
grandson, Paul “PJ” Jackson Jr. (Naja). He also leaves behind his devoted parents, C.
Diane Ross and William “Joe” Ross, his brothers, Ronald “Nick” Ross and Andre’
Ross, and his former wife, Lisa Ross, who remained by his side in care and support.
Additionally, he leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, a Godsister, nieces,
nephews, and many lifelong friends who Bovy considered family, including those who
proudly served alongside him in the Air Force.

His legacy of laughter, wisdom, love and positivity will live on in the hearts of those

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025, 11:00AM at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Roanoke, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Friends may visit at Serenity on Friday from 2-5PM for viewing.  Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
