Not sure what to say?

I'm sad to see this, even though I see that he passed a while ago... Mr. Challenger was a wonderful teacher and human being. I always enjoyed going to his art classes at John Harris High School. (I took his classes from grades 10, 11, and 12, graduating in 1971.) I remember often looking through his big book on Henry Moore, which he kept out on display for students. He would inform, instruct, and encourage his students, without judgement. I also remember vividly the paintings I worked on in...

13 yrs and i still think of Mr C often! He taught art class but more importantly about life. I learned alot from you and will never forget you!

12 yrs ago and i still miss and remember my first mentor. As an art teacher for JH High School back in 1983 Mr C taught me how to be creative and how to be a person. He brought a day in school a meaning and a purpose, whether it was his funny humor or seriousness in art projects Mr C gave me a gift of a lifetime. I had the priveledge to not only know if but pass on what i have learned to my family as well! Never uninvited, even after graduation i would stop in to hear his wisdom and humor....

I would just like to thank everyone who took the time to share their thoughts of my grandfather. It is wonderful to hear how much of a joy he brought to everyones life that knew him, especially my own. He truly is the greatest man I know and will be forever missed by many. Everyone who knew him knows what a blessing it is to have him as a part of their lives. Their are only great memories of him!! Again, thank you for all of your thoughts.

As the onetime face of the Hbg. Teachers FCU Mr. Challenger was very helpful to me as a young teacher getting started in the world of auto loans and other financial business. My condolences to the family. Carmy Hess (Dillsburg)

How could it be that my beloved Art teacher of 38 years ago had been so persistently in my thoughts lately? When I discovered that my mentor had passed on, I felt that a piece of my youthful innocence departed. This is the man who, as I struggled to shade and highlight the apple before me said, "You're looking at it Bob, but you're not SEEING it..." Ah, the distinct difference between looking and actually seeing; One of the many lessons from this man that I've applied throughout the ensuing...

Everyone has someone that came along in their lives which were a great influence. For me early in my life at high school was Mr Challenger. He had the skills to bring out the creativeness and taught not only art but life skills if you were there to experience. I was there and would never have been the person I became if it wasnt for Mr. Challenger. My senior year book from John Harris reads " I leave my greatest thanks to my art teacher and mentor Mr Challenger" and now I leave my greatest...
