William Ross Chitwood
September 4, 1938 - October 17, 2025
William Ross Chitwood peacefully entered eternal life surrounded by his family on October 17, 2025 at the age of 87 after suffering with Parkinson's disease for many years.
Bill was born in Fairfax, Oklahoma to Bonnie McLain Chitwood and Ross Arnold Chitwood, one of six children. He attended Greyhorse School on an Indian reservation and graduated from Fairfax high school. Bill attended Northeast Oklahoma State College and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in agriculture. He enlisted in the Marine Corps with basic training at camp Lejeune and finished his six year commitment in the Marine Corps reserves in San Antonio Texas. Bill married his college sweetheart, Cheryl, Tarr, and he became the devoted father to their two children Mark and Kimberly. Bill began his career with Swift and company in Atlanta and later moved to San Antonio to join his father-in-law's company Sanantex oil in 1963. He purchased the company in 1969 and became president of Sanantex and it's subsidiary, Power Lubricating Equipment Company. Bill grew the business, packaging and distributing branded oil, bulk oil and other automotive products. He serviced car dealerships, mass merchandisers, and fleet accounts, including all the army and Air Force bases in San Antonio. In1980, he sold the company to Tom Turner of Sigmor Oil, which was subsequently acquired by Diamond Shamrock. After his retirement, Bill continued his longtime affiliation with Quaker State Oil for the next 10 years. Sadly, Bill lost his wife Cheryl to cancer in 2000 after a wonderful 39 year marriage. He later married Christina Rogers O'Neill a widow with three grown children. They had a beautiful 22 years together, enjoying many trips to countries around the world, venturing to Europe, China, Russia, Mexico, Cayman Islands, and taking family trips to ski in Utah to visit Disney World and to Port Aransas to enjoy the beach, fishing, and relaxing. Bill also enjoyed the countryside, rodeoing as a teenager, bird hunting in South Texas, golf and gardening. Bill was a true gentleman. He was thoughtful, loyal, humble, and hard-working. He had a kind, gentle nature and his quiet faith guided him in all aspects of life treating everyone with dignity, respect, and integrity. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his son Mark, his sisters, Linda Summy, Jerri Pittman, Joanne Otto, and his brother Larry Chitwood. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years Christina, his daughter, Kim Chitwood Acker, ( Darryl) grandchildren, Garrett Acker, Lauren Acker, stepchildren, Maureen Oneill Clark(Chad), Jennifer O'Neill Ross (Dan), Dr. Thomas O'Neill; and step grandchildren Madeline Clark, Connor Clark, Cameron Clark, Joseph Ross and Jonathan Ross, and his sister Judy Duggins of Ponca City Oklahoma. He leaves a legacy of perseverance, resilience and love that will live on in the lives he touched.
