Not sure what to say?

I roomed with Bill back in 1958-1959 at Ohio University. I live in Lancaster Ohio. For the last several years I have been trying to find Bill but wasn´t able. I really liked Bill wished I could have said hello. I was even in a very bad reck while visiting with Bill. The car was a big brown Oldsmobile convertible. So sorry for his passing. Bill Fairchild

Dr. Coates took a chance naming me as Principal of an elementary school where I remained for 35 years. For this I have been eternally grateful. A true educator in every sense of the word! Thank you Dr. Coates!

Single Memorial Tree

I was honored to become an elementary principal during Dr. Coats tenure in Anchorage. He was an outstanding and inspirational leader totally committed to insuring that ALL students, regardless of circumstance, had outstanding opportunities to be successful students. After he left Anchorage, I continued to try and emulate his his vision for student success as I moved into various central office positions and eventually superintendent from 2000-2012 when I retired. I treasure my memories of...

Cathy. I cant say I knew your father but remember his stature in the Kalamazoo Community as a student. Our young friendship (you and our gang) reminds me of swimming at your pool on Aberdeen. I hope a fond remembrance from me and your time in Kazoo helps you smile during this difficult time. Your father is gone but not fogotten. I wish you and your family wonderful memories.

In Grosse Pointe, Bill brought me to the Administration Office as his assistant. He was not only a great educator but also a great mentor for me, enabling me to continue his superintendent legacy for over 25 years in two Michigan school districts. What a loss for the family and the education profession!

I shall never forget when my son was recovering from Covid 19 and Dr. Coats sent a substantial financial gift to assist the family during a most difficult and stressful time. That´s characteristic of the man I remember even from my days as a part of the Leona family. To Adam and the rest of the Coats´ family, may God continue to comfort and bless you both now and in the days ahead. In deepest sympathy, Ramona Jackson

Though very saddened by the passing of a man/leader whom I admired greatly, I am yet enriched by the memories of the interactions which inspire my ongoing admiration. Dr. Coats inspired me with his genuine devotion to creating quality educational access for young people restrained by the status quo of our society. But I will forever be most thankful for the unwarranted generosity he demonstrated by believing in and creating opportunity for an unproven novice of a young leader. He will be...

My father is Jack Hamilton. My dad worked w/Bill at KPS. My dad did not always agree w/Dr. Coats "hr. style" but he always respected him & admired his determination. My father dies several years ago of a heart attack. I'm sure he would be sad to learn of Bill's passing. Signed, Ross Hamilton Petoskey & Scottsdale
