William CONNORS Obituary
Baseball legend, William Joseph Connors III, born November 2, 1941, in Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 17, 2018. Billy, as he was known to friends and loved ones, was an American former player and pitching coach in professional baseball, enjoying a career that spanned six decades. He first made headlines when at the age of 12, as a member of the Schenectady All-Star team, he led his teammates to win the 1954 Little League World Championship, triumphing over the competition from Colton, California. Billy graduated from Linton High School in Schenectady in 1959 and attended Syracuse University for two years on a basketball scholarship. In 1961, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs as a pitcher/infielder. He went on to play and coach in many leagues, farm teams, and several Major League teams, including the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Kansas City Royals, the Seattle Mariners, and the New York Yankees. Billy was known for his larger-than-life personality, great sense of humor, and lifelong love for his many animals. He will be deeply missed by fans, friends, and loved ones. He is survived by his cousin, Barbara of New York. A memorial to honor and celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
