Read MoreMy Dad was a great man and I think of him almost every day. He was in the Navy in 1944 on (as he was too young to join before that) and was a quartermaster on a Destroyer Escort on the US East Coast where German Subs patrolled. I got on the FDNY in 1985. My grandfather James Daly told me his first cousin Bill was a fireman in Engine 312 in Astoria. I went to the firehouse one day and asked if Bill Daly was working. The house watchman got on the PA and said, "Pops Daly, you have a visitor". When Bill came out front I explained who I was, and we chatted a bit.
