Not sure what to say?

I was very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was the most creative and forward thinking people that I knew in the Forest Service.

Remembering someone after their passing is meaningful. It not only offers condolences to family and loved ones but friends as well. My friendship with Bill was meaningful of his caring for his men in the unit. A short note-after being discharged from the Army, I returned home to Texas. A few months later, Bill left Vietnam and was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas. Being the friend that he was and not knowing exactly where I lived, Bill began looking for me. I had briefly shown him where I lived...

I am saddened to see of Capt. Bill Damon's passing. Bill was my company commander in Vietnam. As a junior officer, he was a role model to me. I witnessed him demonstrate all the qualities and skills of fine leader. He was cool, calm and collect. I truly believe these skills of leadership, decisiveness, and caring for his men were innate qualities that West Point only helped refine. At times I would ask about about a decision, he would say, "what are they going to do, put me in the Army, send...

Raynelle: Thinking Of you and your family today.

I worked with Bill as a fellow member of the blue team and when the team went to Va to work for him. I always learned something from Bill and loved listening to his stories about the Forest Service. He was a super smart person and the team loved Bill.

Bill was a strong competent leader, something the US Forest Service needs a lot more of these days. He listened, took all input, and made a decision.

An early adopter of technology, he pushed the agency to adopt and use computers, GPS, and GIS, then he pushed for mobile technology capabilities.

He eventually became a strong supporter of fire management and greatly increased the prescribed fire program on his Forest.

As said on Game of Thrones,...

Ken and I were so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was a dear friend and outstanding Forest Supervisor, and I had the pleasure of serving as his Executive Assistant for several years. It's impossible to include all the good things I could say about Bill--he was a terrific leader, he was compassionate and fair, he was patient, he had a sense of humor, he knew how to relate to lots of different types of people and his calm strength brought people together in so many ways. He truly cared...

Before I retired, Mr. Damon was my supervisor as I worked as District Ranger on the Pedlar RD (GWNF) and the Glenwood RD (JNF). He was one the best and was a strong supporter of those of us in the "field". I was saddened to hear about his passing and I extend my prayers to the family members.
