I met Bill in spring 1991 during “green” conference in Moscow. It was then, together with friends from Tashkent, Turkmenistan and me that Bill decided to organize the Aral Sea Committee. He sacrificed his job at the San Francisco Bay Institute to fully dedicate himself to the dying Aral. From that time on, he had visited our region often, met with people and wrote articles about the Aral Sea.

It is more then difficult to believe that Bill left us... his energy, enthusiasm, readiness to act immediately were almost incredible. He visited our family only once, but immediately became a friend to all - from my daugther (at that time 5) till mother-in-law (60). doesn't matther that except me and my sohn nobody spoke English. He was simply great Man, and I thank to God for being his frend.

In the 1990s I got to know Bill because of our mutual interest in the plight of the Aral Sea. He was a unique person who devoted great
energy, integrity and honesty to whatever he pursued. He made a major
contribution to bringing the Aral Sea's sad situation to the attention
of the world.

Bill was like a grandfather to me. I remember him being in my life from the day I remember myself. He was always full of laughter that would light up the whole room and make me giggle. He was always so gentle and sweet. These memories of him will be forever cherished.

Uncle Bill Davoren was a wonderful mysterious man to his Colorado family. We envied his life on the San Francisco Bay and admired his political, economic and social standing in California. He had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful host when I visited him at his California home. I remember Uncle Bill driving his convertible sports car in Evergreen, Colorado in the late 60's. He was a free spirit, bound to change the world and full of life. I only wish we would have had more time...
