I remember when I was seriously ill in University Hospital, he showed me such genuine compassion, and he helped me work through a difficulty with one of my senior physicians, quietly but effectively. In complicated and threatening situations, he was a calm and wise mentor. I miss him, and I am so deeply grateful to have had his friendship and counsel.
