Words just cannot express the grief a mother feels for her children at a time like this. Rachel is without one of her sons and our daughter is without the love of her life, her life's partner, friend and father to their children. Never did I imagine that one of our daughters would become a widow and that three of our precios Grandkids would lose their father! We do know that our heavenly Father knows what is best for us even when we don't. There is a reason we are given these things in our lives that make us stronger after having gone through them. The most difficult part is at first and then the pain begins to fade and we remember the good and happy times. We want our grand kids, Brittney, Corey and Bryce to NEVER forget all the things of life that your Dad taught you! Even all the little silly things and funny things he said and did. He always had a way to bring out a smile....talking to or about your pets....or just about anything. He loved to cook both inside and on the grill and was good at both. No one will ever replace a Dad like Carl! He was a good man, husband and father who loved his family, brothers and sisters and his Mother.

Carl & Susan were one of my very first clients a Real Estate agent many, many years ago. We shared a bond and became friends. I was honored to help his young family find their first home together and start their roots. Carl & I shared many interests together, including flying. He took me for a flight over Charlotte in a private plane, and let me sit in the cock-pit of a classic DC-3. These are memories that I have shared with many people over the years and ones that I will never forget. Carl was one of the most sharing wonderful person that I have ever known and he will truly be missed.

I had the opportunity to work with Carl during the mid 90s, it was truly a unique experience to meet such a man, his enthusiasm for life was contagious!

Carls death was such a shock. After an amazing difficult fight 10 years ago it is hard go believe he went so quickly and unexpectedly. Carl taught me many things about being a nurse....he was forever inspirational....god bless you Susan, he lived you and his family so deeply..."

To Rachel, my heart and soul go out to you in the loss of your precious son. I did not know him but got to know him very well at the memorial service at HGBC. It blows me away to know I worshiped with him and his family every Sunday morning and was there on the Sunday he was taken to the hospital. What a wonderful man and beautiful family filled with love and God. My prayers are going up to our Heavenly Father for you, my dear Rachel, and also for Susan, and the children. Seeing the baseball team honoring their Coach warmed my heart. May God bring all of you peace and acceptance, and may He bless you and keep you safe and secure in His love and protection.

Dad I just want you to know how much I love you, and that I miss you terribly already!! I take great comfort in knowing that you are up in heaven watching us from above. You are no longer suffering or in pain but in peace, finally catching up with Papaw after all these years. I will teach the boys all the things that you have taught me, so that your legacy will live on in us. You are such an amazing father to myself, Corey and Bryce. You have taught me so many important things that I will never ever forget. I know that all the things we will have happen in our lives, in the future, that you will still be there with us in our hearts and in Spirit watching from above. I love you more than you will ever know dad! I hate that you're gone, it was way too soon but I know that GOD has a plan behind all this and He never gives you anything you can't handle. I know you were watching on Monday during your funeral service, I am so amazed by all the people that you have impacted without even knowing it. All those people were there because of you and how you touched there lives. You sent me this verse when I was having a hard time:
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

To Mrs. Deen and family and extended family....my deepest sympanthy during this difficult time. Carl was my boss for 3 years. He truly was a great boss, great man of God, a great husband, great father, great son, great brother. I can't say enough about his huge heart. I have alot of great memories but one that stands out was when my son and I ran into him at the mall. He was with his youngest son and he had just gotten him a Christmas gift. He hid it in his jacket and he looked about 5 months pregnant. But he was happy to see me and my son and we had a great talk all the while he's going through all of this hiding of the gift/looking pregnant to surprise his son on Christmas day. He's resting with the lord.

My deepest condolences on your loss. I was fortunate to have worked with Carl over the past few years.
It is rare to come across someone as unique as Carl, he was as level-headed, humble, hardworking and devoted as they come.
Carl spoke frequently of his family and took every opportunity to talk about the baseball games, visiting colleges and family get togethers. He enjoyed every minute of it.
I think I can speak on behalf of all that have met Carl by saying he enriched the lives of all that he met.
In this time of loss, may your burden be eased and your family bonds strengthened.

My prayers go out for Carl's family. I worked with Carl for many years at Banc of America Investment Services. We were all like a small family and he made us all laugh. Amoung many humorous memories, I will never forget the time we were in Seattle at a fancy restaurant and Carl ordered some more 'duck biscuits'..which I think were actually some fancy 'duck confit' on the menu. He had a way of making everything funny and his expressions did the same. To his family, I want you to know that while it is so hard right now, it will get easier as time goes on. He IS with you and always will be. Carl was there for me when I lost my dad (9 years ago) and gave me words of comfort. I hope that my words have given a little bit of comfort back to his beloved family.

I don't even know where to start. Carl Deen, blessed me and my family in so many ways. He was a blessing to all that had one interaction w him. He was an example of a God loving family man that took in any and all.
Carl and Susan shared a love that few do. Their love for each other, their children, their church led their life. Carl, loved being at the baseball fields w all the boys. He took in all 12 boys as their own and did it because he loved them. Carson was loved by an amazing extra dad and that connection will never be forgotten. I will celebrate his life on Monday because I know without a doubt he is sitting in heaven w his maker smiling down on all of us!

I am sitting here looking at Carl dignity memorial and how hard the last few days have been. Wishing that this was all a bad dream!! My brother invited me for supper just three days before all this happen. I had no clue that would be the last time I would get to talk to carl.Carl is the one that kept our family going and it's going to be so hard with out him. In December our mom had a stroke and carl took care of it all. Everyday he was there with her making sure that she was being took care of. This was the kind of great SON,BROTHER and GUY he was!!!!! Had a heart of GOLD. I hope with all my heart that carl know's how much his family LOVE'S him. May God always be with him. I Love you Carl!

Carl was a true friend.
Carl's spirit of optimism, combined with a consistent love and kindness to others were unmatched. He always held humility before honor, but was stacked to the hilt with both.
He fought for life on earth, managing hardships that few are asked to manage and that required enormous moral and physical courage.
The Lord knew he was strong enough to bare that cross.
He gave inspiring confidence to his children, at all times, particularly when facing difficult challenges. It shines through in their character.
He loved his wife Susan, like Christ his church.
I shed tears for his loss, but am more joyful, in the certitude that he remains with us in spirit, that we will always be able to call on his example, and that he is sitting at the right hand of the Father.

Although his will was strong and love of life was insatiable, his body was not strong enough to continue.
For those that knew him well, there will be a huge void and emptiness in their life.
He was everything to everybody...a friend, a big brother, a little brother, a mentor, a teacher, someone you could count on and someone you could depend on. He had the ability for time to stand still while he told stories or made jokes. Most importantly, he was a great dad and loved his family dearly.
Even in his passing he lives strong in the memories and hearts of those he knows, the people that he touched, and the lives that he affected.
Through his passing, he has given hope and life to others by donating his organs to those in need. He will give sight to those who cannot see and strength to those who are weak.

I was and am so sorry to hear of Carl's passing. In the short time that I knew him I was so impressed with how good a father and husband he was. He was always so kind and upbeat about everything. I never heard him say a harsh word about anyone...If there is anything Jack or I can do for you and your family please just ask. I will be praying for you and the kids daily ..May God keep you all in the palm of his hand and someday you will meet again in Heaven.
