William DeVinney Obituary

William DeVinney MORGANTON William "Duck" Reid DeVinney, 73, of Morganton, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care. He was born in Burke County, June 30, 1939, to the late William Claude DeVinney and Annie Reichard DeVinney. Duck was retired from Premier Hosiery Mill and a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 48 years, Rita Trent DeVinney; one son, Trent DeVinney and wife, Tahera, of Morganton; one sister, Gwen Lane, of Morganton; three grandchildren, Andrew DeVinney, Cooper DeVinney and Madison DeVinney; sister-in-law, Marva Alder, of Connecticut; brother-in-law, Bob Trent; niece, Lisa Dale; nephew, Billy Lane; and one great-niece, Peyton Dale. Funeral service to celebrate Duck's life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 29, at Kirksey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Mace officiating. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1715 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690 or to Alzheimer's Association Western Carolina, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton, has the honor of serving the DeVinney family. So very sorry to read of this. May God bless and keep all of you in his loving arms in the ensuing days. We lost Veronica unexpectedly in Jan. of this year.
