News Death Notice

DEWITT, William Donald 81, of New Carlisle, passed away Saturday February 25, 2012 in Heartland of Springfield. He was born March 22, 1930 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of William Thomas and Vivian DeWitt. A proud veteran of the Korean War, he was discharged in 1953 with honors. He was employed as a printer in Springfield and Dayton, retiring in 1994. He married Nancy Lou Lee in 1951 enjoying sixty learning and loving years together; also left to mourn his death are sons William Jr. and David DeWitt of New Carlisle and Doug and Mindi DeWitt of Urbana; beloved grandchildren, Daniel and Anna, Sarah, Noah and Christian DeWitt; also Michael E. McKenney, loving nephew regarded as an immediate family member. William was a quiet private man who loved his family and country. He loved to sit on the front porch reading his newspapers and enjoying the company of his boxer dogs, Sammy and then Max. He was an avid bowler in Springfield and Dayton areas for many years. He loved to watch boxing on television and was into motocross supporting his sons in motocross racing for many happy years. His sister Suzanne Sheets preceded him in death. Our family would like to thank all of the staff at Heartland of Springfield for the kindness and loving care of William and special thanks to Hospice of Heartland who made the journey from life to death as gentle and peaceful as possible. God bless these angels of mercy. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Mitch Pollic officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. You may express condolences to the family at www.littletonandrue.com
