Not sure what to say?

My husband and I just visited the University of Chicago. While at Gamma Alpha, we were informed that Bill had passed away a few years ago. A co-resident sent me this information after I informed him and a few others. Bill was very committed to GA and served as our house manager and represented us at board meetings. He worked on the staircase panels, cultivated several tropical plants (which reminded me of the ones from the Philippines), and ensured that the house run well. Thank you, Bill,...

My deepest condolences to Bills family and many friends at Devils Lake and the CMC. Hes part of the history of the Lake. wi will miss him.

Please accept my dearest and heartfelt sympathy. I am so sorry for your loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this difficult time. Isaiah 61:1,2

I'm sorry to hear that Bill passed away. Bill was my CMC sponsor back in 1983 and I will always be grateful for that. He was part of the of the CMC framework. I will miss him and it will be difficult not seeing him on the club grounds.

Bill Dietrich was such a central figure in the CMC experience of my wife, Diane, and me that it is hard to imagine that he's gone. We joined the CMC in 1978 and have maintained our membership though we now live in Idaho and climb no more. Bless you, Bill.

Over the years as a CMC member I had the good fortune of occasionally climbing with Bill and getting to know him. I was out of town for the memorial, but keep him in my thoughts. May his family have peace knowing he was loved by many. ~LG

Bill Dietrich with former CMC Presidents at Devils Lake, WI.

I'm so sorry to hear that Bill passed. We served together on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Mountaineering Club for the past 13 years. Bill was former President and Grounds Chair of the club. He was very devoted to the CMC and we will greatly miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Condolences for your loss. I fondly remember my conversations with Bill pertaining not only to Gamma Alpha matters, but also about our common interests: cats and gardening. He always knew my cats by name and asked about them, and shared the latest antics of his (at one point he had a mischievous Siamese). Several things Bill planted in the Gamma Alpha back yard are still growing there, including one particularly lovely tree which could serve as a memorial. His knowledge, dedication and sense...

Bill climbing, April 2016

I am very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I enjoyed many days climbing with him at Devil's Lake. His humor, attention, and energy will be missed on the rocks.... it just won't be the same without his commentary.
