Marla...I'm sorry for your loss and that I didn't hear at the time. I have great respect for him and enjoyed working with him in caring for his patients.Chris Masters RN

I had the honor of working with Dr Doolittle 20 years ago. He was a highly respected physician and a wonderful person. He will be missed.

As a new Army Second Lieutenant at Fort Wainwright starting in 1970, I volunteered to work with the Arctic Medical Research. Dr. Doolittle was the commander. We spent 3 months testing equipment, tents, etc., including spending a week up on the Yukon River in January 1971 at -72 degrees. Dr. Doolittle was a fine man, very competent medical professional, and a great person to work with. Everyone in the group received an Army Commendation Medal and a neat "Order of the Glisnia Frigida"...

After my freshman year in college I spent the fall of 1973 as an orderly at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.(Marla was director of nursing and hired me). Dr. Doolittle performed the first endoscopy ever done there, I believe-- in a patient's room, with Karen Frazier as the nurse. He was kind enough to let me take a look at the ulcer. In those days, fibre optic was very new and a marvel. I went medical school at the University of Vermont where he had gone and spent the summer of my freshman...

•When I first came to Fairbanks as the pathologist, there were very few specialists, and very ancient facilities and equipment. Dr Doolittle was at the Cold Regions Lab at Fort Wainright and a very able inspiration and advisor to me on the possible. With the advent of the new hospital, new internists and other specialists began to arrive bringing with them expectations of lab tests and diagnostic tools that they had had back in their residencies. Bill was a great advocate with the Hospital...

Dr. Doolittle was a wonderful mentor, friend and colleague. I spent much time learning from him about work and life. I have thought about him and Marla often. My prayers and thoughts go out to Marla and the family.

Dr Doolittle was a man of great integrity. He gave his best and he expected the best for his patients. It was a pleasure to work with him.

I was fortunate to work with Dr. Doolittle as Administrative Secretary at FMH, Medical Staff Secretary, and then Secretary to the Hospital Foundation Board. He gave so much of his time and energy to benefit the hospital, the staff, and the community as a whole. Truly one of a kind, he will long be remembered. My condolences to Marla and the family.
