WOODSTOCK – William J. Downey Jr., 89, of Woodstock, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois Inpatient Unit in Woodstock.
He was born April 20, 1923, in New York City to the late William and Elizabeth (nee Naughton). He married Elizabeth Binkowski on April 14, 1956, in St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Allen Park, Mich.
William served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, received his bachelor's degree from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C., and went on to become a special agent for the FBI. Upon retirement from the FBI, he worked as a security investigator for The Northern Trust.
Besides his wife, Elizabeth, survivors include his sons, William III (Beatriz), Kenneth (Karen) and Thomas (Mary); daughter, Karen Rogers; and grandchildren, Amanda and Alicia Rogers and Sumayah and Alexander Downey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Elizabeth Parker.
The visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake. An Inurnment will be at a later date in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in William's name may be made to the Hospice Foundation of Northeastern Illinois, 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60010, www.hospiceanswers.org, or to the charity of one's choice.
