William N. Drohan

It is so many years after Bill's passing but those people who touched your life are never truly gone from it. I was thinking about Bill today, (as I was reviewing some scientific literature), and as I have occasionally over the many years since I met him when I worked for him at the NIH lab in Springfield, VA (over 40 years ago). Bill was brilliant, funny, and kind. He loved his wife and children deeply and even had room in his heart for the rest of us. As Bill's cousin (just 7 weeks apart in age), Bill and I shared the same baby carriage. He never took my share of the carriage, although as a 2-month-old he may have "drifted" a bit now and then. To say that he was beloved by all is an understatement. To say that I will miss him daily until we meet again is unquestionable.

Bill helped get me started in my career at the Red Cross. He was kind and generous and always had time for those who worked for him. I enjoyed working for Bill, he was a good scientist and a good man. He'll be missed. My thoughts are with his family in these difficult times.

I don't know if William is the same "Billy" Drohan who attended Holy Trinity grade schoo in San Pedro. If so, he was a kind and thoughtful young boy, well liked by his classmates, and respected by his teachers. It is obvious that his life was well lived. My sympathies to his family and friends. I will remember Bill as one of the most dedicated, funny, generous, warm hearted and caring person that I have ever met. It was my priviledge and honor to have worked for him and to know him. The contributions he made to science are remarkable. My thoughts and prayers are with Marian and family.
