Not sure what to say?

Today I learned of Dr. Dunlap's passing and I was deeply saddened to hear this news. He was my husband, Bob Scott's colleague for years and I had Dr. Dunlap as a professor in graduate school. He used to scare me until I got to know him as a professional. I asked him to be one of the people present when I took my oral master's exam. He was tough, and I welcomed the challenge he presented to me. After many grueling questions, he shook my hand and said, "Mrs. Scott, you did a GREAT job!" I...

I enjoyed working with Bill as Dean. He was very supportive of my interests in international education and encouraged me to develop these contacts further. He was approachable whenever I wanted to discuss educational issues and during the time I was department chair.
I will always remember the times when Bill and Laura hosted a cookout at their home for visiting foreign students or professors.
Bill will be missed by many and I send my condolences to Laura and family.

Bill was "my Dean" when I arrived in WI.While knowing him,he became a mentor for my early years at UW-Eau Claire and it is largely through his influence that I became a department chairperson. He introduced me to international education studies and that it was OK to wear cowboy boots to any event! I will never forget him - my academic "dad." You will be missed, Bill. Heartfelt sympathies to Laura and the boys. -Sue McIntyre

I send my heartfelt sympathy to Laura and Bill's family. Bill was my supervisor in my graduate program. He was always helpful and cared a lot about education. Laura worked at Hillcrest and helped our children who were struggling. I am thinking of you Laura in your time of sorrow.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Laura and family. As an Assistant Dean for Education Outreach, I always had the complete support from Bill, especially at times when controversies made it difficult for him. His kind and gentle approach to leadership often served to thwart potential conflicts during the heat of the battle. I also enjoyed more than a few rounds of golf with Bill and found his dry sense of humor on the course to make those rounds even more fun. He will be missed by all who...

Bill was a gracious gentleman and dedicated professor who truly valued students. I especially treasure memories of Bill when I joined him on faculty reserach trips to Japan where he had cultivated strong collaborations with several Japanese universities. Through his countless contributions in Japan, Korea,Russia, and beyond he has left an indelible imprint on the field of international/comparative education.

I send heartfelt sympathy to Laura and other members of Bill's family as...

Bill was a kind, decent, and patient man; and UW-Claire was enriched by his efforts. My sympathy to his family.

My sincere sympathies to the Dunlap family. As a UWEC reference and instruction librarian, I worked with Bill many times over the years to assist with student research projects and respected and admired his teaching and scholarship. He will be missed.
Respectfully,

I worked with Bill for seven years and loved him. He was like a father to many of us, a protector, a friend and wonderful colleague. I remember meeting Bill when I first began teaching at the university. Bill took me aside and said that I had taken on an impossible job, way too much for one person to handle. He put his arm around me and told me that he would always watch out for me and help me get tenure. He kept his word because each year Bill made sure that I had published something,...
