Not sure what to say?

Dear Marge,

Ed and I have shared so many happy occasions with the Dwyers and the Schmierers - all the memories come rushing back now. We are planning on going to your garden gathering today, with the nostalgia running over, to present our condolences in person at the loss of a very fine, gentle man, your dear husband.

Dear Marge:

How fondly I remember those moments when I was able to visit with you and Bill. Unknown to you perhaps, is that Bill was my very first inspiration to write, and to consider it as a career. While I never will be Bill's equal as an author, it is certainly something that I aspire to each and every day. I, too, remember Bill's column that mentioned me and the accompanying photo (Everett Dirksen I think?) that did resemble me. I shall never forget his many kindnesses,...

Dear Marge:

What an amazing life Bill had. And there in the backround of this Energizer Bunny's life was Marge--looking as placid and calm as Lake Carnegie. You were the perfect balancing act.

I remember an article he wrote in which he mentioned my brother, Carl, Jr. It was a picture of someone famous (as a child) that Bill thought Carl resembled. I thought that was the coolest thing having my brother's name in Bill's column. I would love to track that one down...

I never met Bill on a personal basis but I did call him when I found that he was no longer able to continue his column in the TIMES. As one of the columnists who ATTEMPTS to fill Bill's un-fillable shoes, please know that he has been a role model for me in the pursuit of historical journalism. As I said to him in the conversation when he announced that he was no longer able to keep up his column,I will never be able to fill his shoes. He was one in a million, and will really be missed. I will...

This is a very sad day for me. Bill was almost the only person who was nearly my age and knew a lot of early Trenton where I grew up. I have missed him simply by living too far away but was always pleased when I could visit him and Marge. With fond memories, Nenie

With sympathy for your great loss we will pray that God gives you courage, comfort and acceptance.Bill. & family will be remembered at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Mercy. No.Plainfield, NJ.

Dear Marge,

My thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of sorrow. I so enjoyed knowing Bill and you for so many years (since the 1960s) and the obituary in the Times only touched on the gifts of his life.

Warmly,

Marge & family:

Our sincerest sympathy to you and your family at this time for your loss.

Dear Mrs. Dwyer & Family:

Dad just called to tell me of Mr. Dwyer's passing.

You both were not only friends of Dad and I during my years at Lawrenceville, but were very kind to me.
Dad always enjoyed seeing you both, and playing golf with Mr. Dwyer, Gov. Bryne, and JP Miller.
There were always great stories to be retold after each game.
It was an honor to have known such a talented, and nice man.

My deepest sympathy to you all....
