Read MoreMy condolences to the Fischer family. I knew Bill during the 1957-1958 academic year at Notre Dame. Years later I learned that Bill admired my car, a 1957 Buick. We drove from South Bend to Fort Pierre in the car for Christmas Break.

I was a friend of Bill Fischer for more than seventy years. Bill was a good athlete in high school. He qualfied for the state track in the 100 yard dash as a seventh grader. Bill held the school record in the 100 yard dash for several years.We wrote each other the first couple years he attended Norte Dame. Bill was a true supporter of Fort Pierre.

South Dakota has lost an icon with the passing of Bill Fischer and also a community leader of Fort Pierre and central South Dakota. Bill spread his joy of life to those around him. He will be missed by many.
