I knew Bill only as a fellow teenager and classmate. He didn't follow the crowd and that's how he earned my respect. He had a kind of presence that didn't need everyone's approval. I regret I didn't know him better. He was a good man even then.

I just learned today of Bills passing, all I can say is Elmira lost a truly good man, may his soul rest in eternal peace and my sincere condolences to his family and close friends.
Time I hope is healing the pain

To the Fitch family, we send our sincere condolences to you all. Billy was the best sheriff we had in a long time. He will be greatly missed.

Oh My... I just learned of Billy's passing this past week. Billy was a great man and a great friend. He stood by me at one of the worst points of my life. Boy we had some great talks. It's been quite some time since I left the Elmira area but Billy was often in my thoughts. My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of this wonderful man.

Godspeed Billy, I'm sure you'll be guarding the gates of heaven soon.

It was not too many weeks earlier that I had seen him at a fundraiser for Sinaya and Izzybella, the two babies who died in the car fire in Painted Post, and we were discussing life in general. Denise and family, I am so sorry to hear of your brothers passing, scripture tells us that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, just by all of the positive remarks about him tells me his living was not in vain.
