WILLIAM FRAWLEY

I am sad to learn of Bill´s passing. I attended grammar and high school with Bill, and our mothers were good friends. Bill and I shared many a great time together, we each were involved in HS sports, we were only two of five students to make it to Spanish IV and we both were fortunate to be selected to the National Honor Society. I was a student of Professor Frawley in the early-1980's as an undergrad in one of his Master's level courses at Delaware. He was energetic, extraordinarily witty and exhibited delight in discussing and explaining his subject matter. Professor Frawley never "called it in" and was there 100% for his students. Academia has lost a very bright light in the study of linguistics and semantics. Condolences to the family.

I've just learned of Bill's death; for some reason I up and wondered, "Where is Bill now?" Oh my goodness, he was so kind to the graduate students in the UD program, and none of us possessed more than a fraction of his brilliance. He lived life at full throttle, and even though my last contact with him was almost a decade ago I miss him terribly this morning. Rest in peace, Bill; we mark out our lives in the lessons we teach, as well as those we learn along the way. We all loved you...

I worked with him in Saudi Arabia at King Saud University. He was a wonderful person, both personally and professionally.

Most of my favorite memories working in Linguistics at UD was of Bill. I always told him he missed his calling as a comedian. I went home from work many days with sore jaw muscles from laughing.
He was always missed when he left UD.
I remember how much he loved María and the kids. He was so proud of them.
He was truly one of a kind.

Bill was a charismatic professor who was a friend and mentor to many graduate students at the University of Delaware. His brilliance was overshadowed only by his compassion. I feel grateful and privileged to have studied with him and mourn his passing. Rest well, Bill. the lives you touched were made better for having known you.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
