Bill was a fellow classmate at Tuscaloosa High School in the 1950s. We spent many hours at Science Club meetings, and my sister Barbara and I looked up to him for his intelligence and gentle bearing. So sorry he's gone.

I knew Bill as his Ph.D. adviser at JHU. He was one of my earliest graduate students and we worked closely together. His personality was warm and easy going, but he knew how to get things done. He made major advances in the science while upgrading our technical ability to go even further. His generous funding of a fellowship at Hopkins to get graduate students into research early has been a spring board for a number of students. He was an exceptional individual and we will miss him.

I was born next door to Bill, so have known him all my life. I live in Foley, AL & when he visits friends here we get together. Will miss him.

Bill graduated from Tuscaloosa High, class of ‘57. We were in science club and science classes together. He was smarter than most of us, but well liked by all. His easygoing, quiet personality appealed to teachers and fellow students. The last conversation I had with Bill was at “Spolato Festival” in Charleston, South Carolina.
