I think this is the man who taught me German at East Jefferson High School who ignited in me a love of language and literature that burns yet brighter with time.

I had Mr. Goodrum for German in 1970-71 at Middle GA College in Cochran, GA. He was a very good language professor and I have not forgotten what he taught me there. He always had a smile on his face and I remember him fondly.

January 23, 2016, is the anniversary date of Bill's birth. He would have been 88 years of age today.
His favorite birthday was his 75th. His cousins in California, Jim and Jan, invited him for a stay with them in Palo Alto. He talked about that wonderfully happy time endlessly.
Bill was a raconteur who delighted so many of us with his fascinating stories and experiences. He loved to recite poetry and I, for one, would always request "The antiseptic baby and the prophylactic...

You were always giving and happy to see me when I would come visit and opened your home to me when I needed one. Thank you.

It's hard to imagine New Orleans without Bill there. He was one of my first friends in that magical place that he loved so dearly. 1962. And through all the passing years, his friendship has meant so much to me. I laugh every time I remember his great sense of humor and some of the wonderfully funny things he would say in German. (Does Granny and the washing machine wringer ring a bell?)
Dear Bill, may you rest in peace my friend.

Gertrude, Bryan and I will always love you - - you brought joy into our lives with your many humorous stories like the one when you ran the bar in the Quarter and these country boys would enter and order rum and coke and you would say "one redneck special coming up!. Also, the story of the two country boys entering the bar and see the life-size poster of the Crown Prince and one would ask: "Who is that?" and the other would say :"That's one of Gertrude's relatives". Then there's the time...

I haven't seen Bill in a couple decades but we were best friends in New Orleans back in the 60s. Bill's best feature, besides being a faithful friend, was his sense of the comic and the ridiculous. I won't tell you his best lines because they're a bit racy. He made me roll on the floor with them. He was at his best when he would pass through Atlanta and visit with me. I always looked forward to that. I wish I could tell you his best line, but if you knew Bill you sure enough heard it...
