William Gosling

Bill was my boss at Duke, 1980 - 1982 and a wonderful colleague. When I interviewed, we found, over a dinner for two, that we both collected Christopher Morley, I for reading copies, Bill for first editions. He was an inspiration and now my Morley collection of firsts grows. He was pure class, a gentleman, and a first rate bookman. I just learned of his death today and am shocked and saddened and feel for his family.

Bill was a gentleman, a great colleague, and a wonderful community servant. We were lucky to have Jean and Bill as neighbors. Sending our fond memories and best wishes to Jean and their family.

A fine man who cared deeply and sincerely about others and contributed to their lives in so many ways. I will always remember the difference that you made. You had a great heart and a great mind and they worked together to make the world a better place.

Jean, I was so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. You may not remember
me, but Bill and my former spouse, David MCDonald, worked together at U of M Library. When I reported the news to David, he said he always enjoyed working with Bill. He was a great colleague. I hope in the next few weeks and months you are comforted by the love you shared and all the memories you created.

The kindness man a Best Friend could have. I will miss him terribly.
