Hello,

It is with great sympathy that I write to you. I just learned that one of my high school buddies has passed away. Willie and I were drafted together in the Army. We were in the 553 Field Artillary Batallion in 1950. Our bunks were next to each other. We went out drinking together and to the USO dances. We had a great time. He was one classy fellow. Judy, Mark, Kim and Amy my thoughts are with you at this time. "Mr. Griffen" as I called him as a child and later Bill as an adult, was always kind to me. He seemed to have a smile and hug everytime I would see him. As I was reading the paper (Cortland Standard) Saturday I began to grieve. I was one of those kids he would gather to play ball and no matter how bad you played he never yelled or screamed, he always praised.
