Not sure what to say?

I am sad to learn of the passing of William Hallberg. Bill was one of my English professors at ECU back in 1988. I remember enjoying his class and he signed a first edition hardback copy of 'The Rub of the Green' for my grandmother. I gave it to her for Christmas that year. She loved golf and really appreciated his book.

My long-term golf partner and I feel like we have lost someone. Although we have never met Bill, we are certain that he would he played golf as we do. No jokes, just conversation.
He would have liked our stories, which I am certain he would have used in his books. He was not just a great writer, but one who wrote from the heart.
Winning or losing was never in his mind. It was the way you play the game.
Neither of us are fond of condolences. Please tell his family that whenever...

I dont know if this will get to the family but I just found out about Mr. Hallbergs passing as I was about to read Rub of the Green for the umpteenth time since the late 80s. I have loved this story forever and I was hoping to find other newer golf stories but I will always treasure this one.
Please accept my sincere condolences.
I am now 75 and still trying to play well but those days are gone.
Sincerely......

Bill was a terrific writer and a great guy.

Bill was a terrific writer and a great guy.

Bill was one of my English profs at ECU, and by far my favorite one. What a brilliant mind and amazing person. I am heartbroken to learn of this. I am thinking of each one of you.

Christy; although we've not met, I know that I would like you and your family. I sat behind Bill in Dr. Sloan's history class in 8th grade. I quickly learned another, more subtle form of humor from Bill. Always a friend as he drifted into golf and I went to music in high school. I lost track of him, and now I really regret that. What a smart guy. Byron Stone, BGHS class of '65.

My condolences to Christy and to your family. So sorry for your loss. His books brought great pleasure to golf literature fans. He was a nice guy too!
