Hardy
William R., passed away on 24 October 2017. Born June 14, 1934 to Ms. Chastine Sprague Hardy and Mr. William Beynroth Hardy, he is survived by his sister, Chastine H. Watters; daughter, Anita C. Hardy; son, William R. Hardy, Jr., and grandchildren, Patrick W. Hardy and Linn T. Hardy. A native of Cincinnati, OH, Mr. Hardy graduated from CCDS in 1952; Princeton University in 1956; Harvard University in 1963. For many years, his public face was as an Insurance Underwriter for New England Mutual Life Insurance Company while simultaneously serving his country as a Foreign Intelligence Officer, specializing in Soviet Affairs. In 1963, he joined Graydon, Head and Ritchey until his retirement from the firm in 1998 as a Sr Partner. He completed his military service at the rank of Major General as the Adjutant General of the Ohio Military Reserve. An avid fisherman, he was active with the Queen City Angler's Guild. Mr. Hardy was involved in civic affairs and served on the Board of Cincinnati Union Bethel from 1968 to 1983 and President from 1977-1983; Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center, Inc from 1970 to 2009 and President from 1981-1982; City of Cincinnati Board of Building Appeals from 1976 to 2001 and Chairman from 1988-2001; He was the Founding President and Board member of the Hamilton County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board, Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services and served from 1990 to 1994. He additionally served on the Board of Substance Abuse Management and Development, Inc. In other civic activities he was Chairman of the United Clothing Drive from 1972-1980 and a member of the Planning, Evaluation and Training Subcommittee, Community Action Commission of Greater Cincinnati from 1971-1973. Services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017, 10:30 am, at the Church of the Redeemer in Hyde Park, Cincinnati, OH 45208. A reception will follow.
