Not sure what to say?

Bill, Thanks for the friendship. Although living life came between us, whenever I saw you again, it was like no time had passed at all. You will be missed! This world is a lesser place without you. Until we meet again... RIP.

I'll never forget the day that I was dropped off at Sewanee in 1976. I didn't know anyone, or anything about that incredible mountain top; and there was Billy. Bigger than life; hugging all the girls and kissing all the Moms. I can still hear that laugh. I don't think more than a day passed before he'd wrapped me up in one of his big old bear hugs and made me feel like one of his brothers. He made it one of the greatest years of my life, and I will never forget him for it. Jim attached a...

With my deepest sympathy to Bill's family! I am very sorry for your loss. I first met and became friends with Billy at McCallie during summer school and then again at Sewanee when I transferred. We shared some great times on that mountain and I have wonderful memories of such a good and kind man. Wishing you God's peace.

What can I say that has not already been written. Nothing. Billy was a truly unique and amazing human being. If you were lucky enough to be considered a friend then it was forever, with all the trimmings. I am so sorry that I am not able to be there to pay my respects in person, but my thoughts and prayers go out to Billy's family and all of our friends. He will be deeply and truly missed.

I met Billy at Sewanee in September 1973 we became roommates Junior year of 1974. We both played baseball and football together and became very good friends. Billy helped me with encouraging words when I was down and was a positive influence in my life. Being from Auburn and Billy from Birmingham we would give each other a hard time. Since Billy was a RollTide fan and I was a War Eagel fan! This friendship has lasted till now. I played my cello at his home for Lynn and Billy while he cooked...

"Truly great, loving, generous, friends like Billy are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget!" Thanks for being part of my "our" Sewanee family. Love Sweet Pea

My prayers are with Billy and his family and his many, many close friends. I was Billy's bartender at Billy's in English Village over 11 years ago—the bar's "best years" with Q, Lori, Sally, Gaines, Anne, and Allison. Billy was larger than life, from his great-big wonderful laugh to the great-big wonderful bear hugs he would give... And right now I have to think he's giving one of those great be hugs to Lynn ("Mama" as he would affectionately call her). He was just a big lovable teddy bear...

Billy was a great friend to all and was so full of kindness and fun. He was a brother to many at Sewanee. We will miss his smile, laugh, and big heart. We will keep our wonderful memories of Billy alive in our hearts and on the mountain. All love and care to Billy’s family.
