Not sure what to say?

James, I'm so sorry to hear about dad's passing. I pray that God will bring you peace during this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

Deven, We are greatly distressed to learn of Bill's passing, though we take some small comfort in knowing that he died with his boots on. He was the best of summer friends, biking, paddling, or simply just hanging out and exchanging ideas. We will sorely miss him, but rejoice in having known him. Peace, and know that Bill's spirit is still with us on the lake he loved

To Deven and family,
I was very saddened to learn of Bill's passing from classmates at Middlebury College. Bill and I were in the freshman dorm and although we did not keep in touch over the years, I remember him very well as a kind and wonderful guy, someone you just had to admire. When I went through some personal difficulties, he was very supportive and sympathetic. I never forgot that. My thoughts are with you.

To The Hearne family,
Bill was an incredible instructor, our paths crossed when I began attending cycle/spin classes at the Eastside YMCA. His infectious energy, and smile gave me the drive to perservere.I am fairly new to spin/cycle and when I thought I couldnot go farther, Bill's encouragement and positive feedback gave me the drive. When I go out on the road riding and I get tired, I hear Bill's voice saying " you can do it, dont give up". I remember Bill sharing with me about his...

I was shocked and deeply saddened to see Bill's memorial. Karen was scanning for news of Bill and Deven in anticipation of seeing them at our 40th college reunion. Bill was the kind of friend who you could see after many years and feel instantly that you had never been apart. I will miss him. My love to Deven and his family.

A member of Bill's far flung community recently posted a remembrance on the memorial blog that mentioned the term "Hearne miles". Apparently the concept applied to bicycling as well. Prior to one of my early Labor Day trips to Rochester, I emailed Bill that I'd like to ride 35-40 miles on Sunday ... did he know anyone from the ODR group who might be interested? Bill found Jim and Ann in addition to himself. The four of us then met Wayne, Jim's friend, a few miles into the ride. We...

For 23 years, every Monday after work at Kodak, Bill and I met with other friends for a beer and some good discussion. We called it our "Staff Meeting" and Bill always made it more fun with his sharp intellect and quick wit.

After retirement, Bill and I still met several times a year for lunch. Personally, I will miss Bill always and wish Deven and the rest of Bill's family well.

I was very sad to read this obituary at the Y today. I took Bill's triathlon class in 2006 and loved it. He was definitely inspirational and always a pleasure to run into. Rochester in general, and the Y in particular will miss him immensely.
