Not sure what to say?

I was a 9th grade student of his in 1968 at Riverside Jr. High in Grand Rapids. He taught a Civics Class. I learned much from it. I enjoyed the class. Many things back then were affecting the country. Civil rights demonstrations, rioting in the streets, the Vietnam war - to name a few. When he got around to law enforcement, he knew from my name that if I was related to someone. That person was my father, the City police Captain. He asked if I could ask my dad to call him to perhaps...

Was pleasantly surprised to have this show up in my email this week and so happy folks are working to keep Bill "the refrigerator" Hieshetter's memory alive. Such an absolutely phenomenal human being! His wit, his laughter and his bigger than life personality are missed in Lansing. I hope he and the boys are whooping it up in the clouds!

Dear Mic and family: Billy's memory alert popped up in my email today and like so often over the past 8 years, I thought of him with laughter. His presence is missed by those of us in Lansing and Grand Rapids who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him over the years. I hope he and Jake are still riding the "Beer Marquette" rail line and having a grand old time together. Thinking of you all this time of year!

Dear Mic and family, As you probably are, I'm stunned that it's been 6 years since Bill left this world. He continues to be missed deeply by those who had the honor and pleasure of spending time with him. His loyalty to and love of family and friends lives on in tribute to his character. I often think how he has now join the stars, who are twinkling and enjoying having him among them. Love to all!

My sympathy goes out for your family. I remember my father, James Farage always mentioning Bill's name when they volunteered at Variety Club and other charitable organizations. They hung out a lot together. Truly a great bunch to honor. As not many are the character they were. They did what they did, it came from the heart, made them closer to God. They didn't do it from the advice of their accountant. All those men and women are mostly gone now, including my father.

Mary - My deepest sympathy to you and your family regarding the loss of Coach. He touched me in so many ways as a teacher at Riverside Jr High and as a coach during my three years playing football at Creston. He will be missed greatly by all.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Bill for many years covering education legislation in Lansing. He was a GREAT guy and one that respected the people with whom he worked. He was a champion for children and will long be remembered as such. Thank you for sharing him with so many. I was out of the state or would have shared my feelings personally with the family.

I'm so sorry I didn't get to the funeral because of snow predictions (which didn't happen). Mr. Shetter was an infectiously great spirit! Our family will truly miss his wonderful humor! He leaves many happy memories behind.

Mary, Mike and Sue: Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
