Bill was one of those rare leaders who had vision and passion matched with the ability to make sometimes hard, strategic decisions to move an organization ahead. I was fortunate to be able to work closely with him when McClatchy purchased the News Tribune and he took many bold steps to lead not only the paper, but the community in significant transformations. I worked with Bill in Sacramento on various nonprofit committees. He was a wonderful man. May he rest in peace.

I worked with Bill closely for years at The News Tribune and knew him as an ethical, good-humored and profoundly decent man. We are sorry for your loss and ours.

Bill was a great man. He and his family welcomed me to Tacoma and took me in at Christmas time when I was away from my own family. He was a great United Way volunteer and I was privileged to work with him during my time with the organization in Tacoma. Bill was a champion of all good things.
