HUGHES, WILLIAM P. 03/10/31 TO 02/23/06 - of Florida. He was a resident of Cape May county for over 60 years until moving with his wife to Florida in the 1980's. He graduated from St. Ann's school 1945 and attended Wildwood Catholic High School and was a member of the first graduating class in 1950 after transferring from Wildwood High School in which he was a four letter athlete and excelled in Basketball. After graduation he enlisted in the us Marine Corps and was active duty from 1950 to 1953. He was in the 2nd Marine division. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He broke the record at Paris Island for the M1 rifle and was classified as an expert marksman. He married his beloved wife of 55 years Joan Lilly on September 1, 1950 at St Ann's church. After his discharge from the Marines he moved back to Wildwood and ran the Family business which was Hughes' Market for almost 30 years. Bill was an avid golfer and had been a member of the Avalon and Wildwood golf courses for many years. During his years in this county he was a member of the democratic club of North Wildwood and ran for council of North Wildwood. He was the treasurer of the Independent Record Publishing Company and a member of the Wildwood Zoning Board. He was a charter member of the Dramis Marine Corps League and a 3rd degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. After moving to Florida with his wife he became very active with golfing which was his passion, he organized and participated in many golf leagues at The Plantation development that he resided at. Surviving are his wife Joan L. Hughes and children William Hughes and his wife Kathleen, Evelyn Miley and her husband John, Robert Hughes and his wife Audrey, Victoria Graham, Rhonda Rosamilia and her husband Salvador, John Hughes, Colleen White and her husband Kevin, and was predeceased in death by his daughter Sharon Hughes Sicilia. He was the loving Grandfather of 18 grand children and the great grand father of 10. Bill had many friends from NJ and Florida. His Family and friends will miss him dearly and always remember how supportive and loving he was to them and especially his sense of humor that made him who he was. William P. Hughes the best Husband and Father in the world. We will always love you. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday at St. Ann's Church, 2900 Atlantic Ave., Wildwood. Friends may call on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and on Thursday from 9-10 AM at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., N. Cape Nay. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cold Spring.
