Dear Yvonne,
To you and your sons, to all of your family, we extend our deepest sympathies. Bill was such a super human being. We loved his cheery smile and bright words at Thursday Night Suppers at MTC, his interest and his enthusiasm. What an incredible shock to realize that he is gone. We are so very sorry.
Know that you all are in our hearts and prayers.

Yvonne, Alex & Ryan: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know your hearts are breaking right now, lean on all those that surround you. Bill was a great person--I was so looking forward to Patrick, my husband, meeting him at our gathering later this month. I know he would have loved Bill's dry, matter-of-fact humor! You are all in my prayers!

Dear Hurlbutt Family: Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. I worked for Bill for a couple of summers in my first real job out of high school in the late 1970's. He was a great boss - absolute master at what he did and worked really well with his customers. From him I began to learn what it was like to really work. Again, my deepest regrets.

Dear Yvonne, Alex & Ryan, I am so sad & shocked to hear about Bill. Even though I haven't seen him in years, I enjoyed the yearly Christmas cards & seeing the boys grow up. He was one of the funniest people I've ever known. He was truly a special & unique person who will be terribly missed. I will always remember the good times he shared with us.All the stuff Bill, Dick & Dennis did at OU was hilarious. This is a hard one. Love, Mary Chapman Herron (Dickie's ex)

Dear Yvonne, Alex, and Ryan,
All of you and Bill are in Barbara's, Cammie's, Kathryn's and my thoughts prayers.
As I began to post this entry, it occurred to me how weak any words of mine would be to attempt to beguile you from the deep grief you must be experiencing at the tragic and unexpected and unfair loss of a beloved husband and father such as Bill.
Even so, I cannot help but want to share with you an inscription I read a long, long time ago which has given me some comfort during times of personal loss in my own life. I hope in some small way it helps you during these tough times:
"If I should go while you're still here, know that I live on, vibrating to a different measure behind a veil you cannot see through. You will not be able to see me so you must have faith, and know that I await the time when we will all be together again, knowing each other, and soaring above the clouds. Until then live your lives to their fullest, and when you need me just whisper my name in your heart and I will be there. (Annonymous)"
I will end by telling you that I always meant to again make Bill my "Cowboy-Dave Beans" which I know that he loved so much. I always thought that there would be plenty of time to do that. How wrong I was and how sorry I am.

To Bill's Family:
I happened to be in town (I live in Washington, DC) and I read about Billy's passing...The last time I saw him was at our 30th high school reunion. Bill and I went ALL through school together, from kindergarten through HS and I always felt a comeraderie with him. Our fathers also went all through school together..Please accept my sincerest condolences.

To the Whole Hurlbutt Family,
We are so saddened by the passing of Bill. Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole family - we pray for the Lord's peace and comfort during this incredibly difficult time. I know that my mom has many childhood memories growing up with the three Hurlbutt boys and I have many fun memories of playing on the beach and babysitting your kids in Glen Arbor. Your family has always been so warm and welcoming to us and we have had some good laughs around the fires on the beach up north. Your family has touched our lives and we hope that you feel loved and supported during this time.
Sincerely,
Brandon and Katie Zibell

We just learned of your tragic loss and are so saddened to hear about Bill.
He was a fixture in our neighborhood, always waving hello as he drove by in his white truck.
The Bristol Street neighborhood won't be the same without someone like him.

I was deeply saddened when I found out of Bill's passing. Being Alex's college friend I have countless memories of Bill coming to Ames. I'll never forget our great memories with Bill of tailgates, the fashion show, and of course, the dreadful moving days that Alex put Bill through:) Bill never failed to put smiles on our faces! His humor and kind heart will be missed by all! My prayers are with you.
