I knew William Hurt when he was still an undergraduate at Tufts University, and I was a grad student. He was a wonderful actor even then, and I was privileged to see his work in several university plays, including Shaw's Heartbreak House. Bill played Captain Shotover, and when he came on stage, he had utterly transformed himself from a lean and lithe 20-something heart-throb into a squat old man who was clearly a man of the sea, and who might have been a thousand years old. A special person and actor. No one else could have captured the gracious spirit he portrayed in "The Doctor". My favorite movie. Thank you William.
