Not sure what to say?

Professor Kaldis was one of the reasons I became a historian. First had his Western Civilization courses, then Early Christianity and Byzantium. A great lecturer, I still use notes from his classes when writing my own lectures. I also remember his athleticism, the occasions when I'd be running along the Hocking River and we'd cross paths and run some time together.

Dr Kaldis. Was probably my most favorite professor at Ohio U

Bill was so kind to me when I first came to Athens, just before his retirement. He was always interested in my work, and always trying to persuade me to work on Byzantine history! I will remember, fondly, seeing him running on the bike path, and his lovely smile. My condolences to his family and friends.

Dr. Kaldis' care and enthusiasm made his University Professor class, circa 1984 or 1985, a still cherished recollection from my college experience. He made us laugh, showed us that rigor (not to be confused with rigidity!) could provide a path to enlightenment, took genuine delight in getting to know all of us and encouraging us to do the same with each other. He will always be my exemplar of learning as a joyful pursuit.

The Ohio University History Department offers its condolences and celebrates the life of Bill, a scholar and teacher who contributed much to our department, campus, the Athens community, and his country.
