Sigh! I miss Bill.

Bill Kaynor was a true and outstanding member of the "Greatest Generation". I am a member of that group also, but Bill and his brother Dick (Richard) were quiet leaders of stature and honor and good faith. Generous and useful, they were gentlemen in the best meaning of the word.

They served their country at risk of their lives; Dick as an ambulance driver in North Africa, Bill who flew as pilot in bombing raids over Germany, under attack by Nazi fighter...

We're a bit quieter than usual here in Quogue this weekend, remembering our friend Bill. When Bill stopped by for a cup of coffee, midway through his Sunday bike ride, we'd all sit right back down at the table, happy to enjoy his company. His visits were always special to us. We all miss him.

Uncle Bill will be greatly missed by all of us who loved him so.He leaves a legacy of kindness to all of us who knew him. He will remain in our hearts forever. He was truly a great hero to us and to others.
