William A. Kerler, 94, of Wind Gap, passed away, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at St. Luke’s Anderson Campus.  He was the husband of the late Helen T. (Zopf) Kerler, who passed away, November 12, 2013.  


Born in Easton, September 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Anton and Rose (Strobel) Kerler. 


He attended Nazareth High School and honorably served his country in the US Airforce during the Korean War. 


Prior to retiring, he was employed as a truck driver for Harvel Plastics, Forks Township and the former Schaible’s Bakery. 


William was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Pen Argyl, where he served as a cantor and was on the grounds committee.  He was a Lifetime member of the Wind Gap American Legion and the Sampson Airforce Base Association.  He was also a 4th degree and lifetime member of the Fr. DeNisco Council of the Knights of Columbus, where he was awarded “Knight of the Year” in 2004 and a member of the Teamsters Union. 


He was deeply involved in the major renovations of the upstairs hall and kitchen of the Fr. DeNisco building and he was a great story teller of his trucking and delivery days. 


He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Martocci and her husband Michael of Brandon, FL, and Diane Lobb and her husband David of Belfast, three sons, William and his wife Deborah of Collegeville, Anton and his wife Christina of Wimauma, FL, and Neal and his wife Katherine of Wind Gap, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. 


He was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Michael Martocci, two sisters, Dolores Jones and Eleanor Kelly, a half-sister, Margaret Henderson and four step brothers, John, Anthony, Frank and Louis Unger.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Monday, May 13, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 300 W. Babbitt Avenue, Pen Argyl.  There will be a viewing beginning at 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM at the church.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery, Pen Argyl. The Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, Pen Argyl is in charge of arrangements.

Great childhood memories visiting Bill and Helen. Loved hanging with all their kiddos. They were what seemed to me to be perfect parents. Very caring about their children and instilling in them good morals. RIP Bill. Now you and Helen and my mom and dad are together again.

To the Kerler family, Bill was a very kind and happy guy. I would stop and visit with Bill on my walks or wherever we met. He was usually working on his beautiful yard. He was a hard worker and very energetic. I loved his stories and hearing him laugh. I´m sorry for your loss. He will be greatly missed.
