Not sure what to say?

I just learned of Bill's passing and am shocked and saddened. He and I were Army roommates (bachelor apartment) while stationed at the Persidio of SF.
We actually drove cross country from Army school in Baltimore, MD to our new assignment in SF, and thereafter did extensive traveling during our fee time (Pacific Northwest, Hawaii and all of CA). After discharge, he went on to the foreign Service and I to my private life career. But we stayed in touch and visited whenever possible. He...

We will miss Bill. We shared interests in politics, travel and food. We especially liked his sense of humor. Bill and Mindy were for years key members of our gourmet dinner group in Reston, Virginia. I (Dan) visited them after they moved to Portland. Bill and I hiked and camped through Southern Washington and Oregon. We talked about getting together again but much to my regret we didn't follow through.

Ken and I enjoyed the company and cooking skills of Mindy and Bill when they belonged to our Gourmet Group in Reston, Virginia, many years ago. Mindy is in both our thoughts at this sad time.

Most memorable hike with Bill was Trails Club of OR Alpine Outing when we climbed So. Sister. I hiked with Bill with Sr. Div. of Portland Parks Bureau for many years where his love of GOOD coffee led the group to the WONDERFUL ice cream stop in Cascade Locks. Most recent time was going with Bill as he drove to Strawberry Mt's on TCO's hiking trip 8-29/9-4-'14.

Bill and I entered the Foreign Service about the same time. He was both one of my oldest friends and a very special one. Thanks to a spaghetti dinner at his house on Capitol Hill in Washington, I met my wife Carolyn. He subsequently was a member of our wedding party. Despite the distances that often separated us, we never seemed to grow apart. Bill had everything -- wide interests, a quick wit, always thoughtful and caring. Getting together was always a special joy. I will miss him.

bill and i met when i first moved to portland two years ago. it turned out that we lived within a few miles of each other in new jersey and that i went to college with his sister ruth. a small world indeed. Condolences to his family.

I hiked with Bill for 14 years,Wilderness outings,Ken's outings and Portland Parks. He was a great guy to hike with, a good human being and I will miss him.

I am a Cascade PrimeTimer and did many, many hikes with Bill. I enjoyed hearing his stories about the Foreign Service and State Department. He loved hiking and rarely missed one of our Friday hikes. I'll miss hiking with him.

I enjoyed hiking with Bill. We roomed together for 5 days on a September trip. Bill scouted out several good restaurants for our group. We'll all miss him.
