William Kizer Obituary

William "Bill" Ellis Kizer 1924 - 2011 Bill Kizer was born in Burlington, Iowa to Ellis and Aurelia Kizer. He and his older brother Jack were raised on his family's farm. Bill graduated from Burlington High School in 1942. He married Jessie May Waldorf in 1945 while he was serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII. He also served later in Korea. Bill and Jessie had two children, Susan and Michael, and in 1955 he moved his family to Bakersfield, CA. He went to work for Sparkle Cleaners that same year as a route salesman and held many managerial positions with that organization. After 26 years of marriage, Jessie Kizer passed away in 1971, and in 1975 Bill married Phyllis Ringrose. They spent 23 years together until her passing in 2000. Bill retired from Sparkle in 2010 at the age of 86 and for several years prior was in charge of ordering and supplies. Bill was an avid golfer, teaching many family members the game; he enjoyed bowling and in later years playing pool. Bill loved his family and spent quality time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had a deep love for his "Sparkle" family and after retirement would visit often thriving on those wonderful friendships. Bill is survived by his children Susan Kimmel and husband Myron, Mike Kizer and wife Cheryl, Grandchildren Mark Kimmel and his wife Kelly, Jason Kizer and wife Shannon, Amanda (Kimmel) Schwartz and husband Brad, David Kizer and wife Alishia, and Brian Kizer. Bill was blessed with six great-grandchildren. Fr. John Riebe and Fr. Don Cleave will conduct services at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with reception following at All Saints Anglican Church, 3200 Gosford Road. The family would welcome contributions to Odyssey Hospice on Commercecenter Drive www.bakersfield.com/obits

Remember Me This Way

Although I have gone
while you remain
I did not wish it this way.
Do not mourn
Please don't cry
You cannot see me
but I am still here
listening, loving
and watching over you.
Hear my words now
They are important.
listen with your heart
My last wishes for you
Be gentle with yourself
No blame, guilt or regrets.
grieve. grieve well
then lay it gently aside
and allow yourself to heal.
Allow peace to find you
in some small way...every day.
Live your life to its fullest
Dont keep me alive
by closing your heart to others
I dont want you to do that
I am beyond that
I want you to find love again
to grow old with someone
I want to see your children
to love them from afar
simply because they are part of you.
...and when you think of me...
Remember me with happiness
not with pain
Remember how very much
I loved you
Did I ever tell you
how much I enjoyed
the sound of your laughter?
How it made my heart smile?
Please, dont stop laughing
I want to carry the sound of it
with me into eternity
and sprinkle it
among the stars.
I know that right now
you are hurting
and might feel lost
or afraid
afraid it will never get better
afraid to feel
or to think to the future
everything is different now
and seems a bit unreal.
But you are not alone
for I am not gone.
If you doubt it,
Look within yourself
within your heart
and call to me
and believe.
When you need me
really need me
you will always find me there
listening, loving
and watching over you
throughout all the days
of your life.

Billiard: I didnt see much of you during the last few years but i want you to know i always loved you. You shaped my life in so many ways. Thank you for loving my mom like you did, for loving me even when i got on your last nerve, thank you for all the laughter and corny jokes. You touched so many lives and left so many memories behind. A part of you lives on in each and every one of so very many people. Its been a heck of a ride.
I'll miss you dad

I worked with Bill for about 20 years as a Supplier to Sparkle Linen in Bakersfield, CA. In all those years I never saw him get upset or angry at anyone. Everyone loved him and he was always happy and joyful even when he was in a hurry. Bill, we will miss you, your red mustang and your great temperment towards your fellow human beings. I am confident Heaven has opened its doors wide to you. See you there one day when I too am called home.

Mr. Kizer was a fair man and a nice guy. He loved to teach a person the right way to do something. He took the time to "teach" me how to do my job, and always with respect. It was fun to watch Bill figure out how to do something or how to make it work, and if it was broke he would fix it. I left Sparkle Cleaners 21 years ago, and I still use Bill's inventory method to track stock. Mr. Kizer you will be missed by all those who knew you. Your friend Norma Wilson

We will miss you so much, Grandpa. Our family was blessed to have you in our lives, and we will cherish every memory... of you cheering on the kids at their games, trick-or-treating with them, celebrating every milestone with us, teaching us all how to putt a golf ball, throw a strike and hit a pool ball... the memories are too many to count. God bless you and we will meet again in Heaven one day. Love you, Mark, Kelly, Mason and Maycee Rose
