William L. "Bill" Steward

A Celebration of Life Gathering for William L. "Bill" Steward, 74, a resident of Long Grove, Iowa, will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Don's Pub, 101 S. Main Street, Donahue, Iowa 52746. Visitation will be Friday, September 7, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Bill died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at his home after a brief illness. William Leslie Steward was born on November 2, 1937 in Davenport, a son of Rudolph and Ella (Gronewald) Steward. He married Judy Galitz on May 11, 1960 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Long Grove. Bill was employed for many years at Sivyer Steel, retiring in 2000, and as a North Scott Elementary School Bus Driver and RiverBend Transit Driver. He also worked on the family farm throughout his life. Bill was a 44-year member of the Silver Spurs Saddle Club and enjoyed trail rides. Bill was a man of men who loved and lived for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was also a grandfather and father figure to many over the years. Memorials may be made to the family. Surviving Bill are his wife, Judy, Long Grove, children, Peggy S. Clasen, Long Grove, Paul W. (Laura) Steward, Long Grove, Patrick A. (Amy) Steward, Wheatland, IA; grandchildren, Destiny (Tony) Gerhardt, Ashley "Wild Child" Danielsen, Amber Dufloth, Autumn (Kyle) Danielsen, Bailey Garrity, Mark Steward, Shalyn Steward, Kolton Steward, McKalyn Steward; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Millie Wallace, Davenport, brother-in-law, Dennis (Ruth) Galitz, Columbus Junction, IA, sister-in-law, Patricia Kroeger, Donahue; and his faithful companions, Mattie, Zoie, and his horse, Foxy. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ralph and Robert "Butch" Steward and a daughter, Patricia. May they rest in peace.
