Not sure what to say?

Today, I thought of my friend, BiLL Latham, from my 2 years in the army at Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Though we had but one phone conversation after our discharge from the service, he remains a man who impressed me with his intellectual integrity, his gifts of language, his humor and human sympathies, and his range of interests from sports to theology.

Today, I looked up his name on my computer--an instrument I use poorly-- and, to my dismay, discovered his...

If this is the Bill Latham I knew at Madigan Army Hospital in the mid 1950's, I send belated condolences and my personal regrets that I did not pursue our friendship after our 2 years in the army. I saw him as a man of considerable gifts of thought and language, of great humor and irony, of sincere interest in life's most important questions (including God), and of genuine compassion. He may well have had some part in my decision to become an English teacher.

Mary Pat and family - I am sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Some of my happiest days were working at The Brown County Press, and in the years since, I'd run into Bill somewhere, and have a delightful conversation. Happy to see his smile in the accompanying photo, because that's the way I always remembered him. Condolences to all.

Dear Elizabeth,
To you and your mother and family, my condolences on your father's death. I was always fond of you at St. Ursula and had the greatest respect for your parents. All day I've been trying to organize everything to get to the funeral home, but with Sr. Mary Germaine approaching death on the west side of town, it may not be possible - to my great regret.
Accompanying all of you in prayer,
Mary-Cabrini Durkin

Pat (and family),

So sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. Even though I did not have the pleasure of meeting him in this life, you always spoke so highly of him, and he certainly raised a great son.

Please know that me, my family and the staff of the Christian Blue Network will keep you and your family in our prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear of Bill's death. He taught me so much about reporting and photography in my first journalism job at The Clermont Sun. He was a true professional and a wonderful boss. My best to Mary Pat and family.

Mary Pat/family, Sorry to learn of Bill's passing. He was a good friend/colleague. He was always positive/helpful. May your wonderful memories console you in this time of grief.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Latham's passing. I have so many memories of him as the father of my friend Elizabeth and my employer at the Clermont Sun. My deepest condolences to you all.

Mary Pat & family,
Our deepest sympathy to you. We always enjoyed having Bill come to Eucharist on Sunday mornings in our chapel with Mary Pat. May God comfort you and give you peace through your good memories of Bill. We will be praying for you at this difficult time.
